MS hires guard against hackers
29/01/2001 11:52 - (SA)
New York - Software giant Microsoft, which had some of its websites hacked last week, has hired Akamai Technologies to guard against hackers, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition on Monday.
Akamai will operate four backup directories for Microsoft's
major sites to prevent site outages, the paper said.
Microsoft's sites were hacked into last Thursday and Friday
with denial of service attacks, which essentially send millions
of electronic messages in a bid to tie up equipment and prevent
Internet users from accessing websites.
